Have you ever considered the importance of your role in all of this? As in the impact of how you use your whole self (mind, body, soul) has on these things?

Every Monday come together to experience the Alexander Technique from 3:30 till 4:30 or 4 till 5pm, PAUSE, take a breather, a moment to JUST BE as we explore these and other ideas together through fun and practical activities related to your daily ones!

This is a free community event. Faculty, students are welcome to this ongoing Alexander Technique class. Donations accepted.

“The technique brings into learning some of the pleasure and excitement which children feel when they do things for the first time- and begin to explore the world.
It is a means for dealing with change- but change based on a knowledge of reality. Freedom to change, but first you have to know and accept yourself for what you are.”
-Frank Pierce Jones

dscn0596Light in Being-Alexander Teacher Training (LiBATT)

Light in Being-Alexander Technique is currently offering a 3 year (1600 hours) training course to become a teacher of the Alexander Technique in Boone, NC at Neighborhood Yoga Studios. Becoming an Alexander Technique teacher is a process of self-observation, inquiry, choice and transformation. Students deepen their study and application of the Alexander Technique in the context of and relative to their professional careers and life activities. They learn in a practical setting of “hands-on” work the specific touch characteristic of the Alexander Technique teacher. Students are trained to articulate and apply the principles and concepts of the Alexander work to themselves, their profession and their lives so as to be able to touch and teach others in turn as outlined in F.M. Alexander’s four books.

To embody the qualities necessary for certification takes a minimum of 1600 hours with at least 1200 of those in contact hours with Light in Being Faculty and the remaining 400 in self-study or workshops over the course of at least 3 and no more than 5 consecutive years. Students desiring to become Alexander Technique Teachers would therefore need to plan on devoting a minimum of 3 consecutive years in order to complete their training in the Alexander Technique, apply for certification and begin teaching. Certification is available upon completion and approval of Light in Being faculty through Alexander Technique International‘s sponsorship process.

This is a residential course meeting 12 hours per week for 38 weeks per year with regular breaks roughly following the academic calendar. We meet Tuesdays, Thursdays from 9am till 1pm and Fridays from 12 till 5pm and each trainee will receive a private lesson every few weeks on Fridays.

Alexander Technique Immersion Course at Sorrento GuitarFest, Italy, July 20th-24th 2017.

As part of Sorrento GuitarFest Masterclasses, Light in Being-Alexander Technique is offering a residential Alexander Technique course for teachers, trainees and students interested in working with musicians on the beautiful Amalfi coast in Italy.

This Alexander Technique workshop will take place in conjunction with the Sorrento GuitarFest Masterclasses. It will be 4 full days with a day off in the middle for sight-seeing or resting and integration. Alexander teachers and students will make full use of the presence of the performers on site, taking lessons and performing to explore ways of working with performing artists using the Alexander Technique. This is an exceptional course format for Alexander Teachers to directly apply the learning of our AT classes in real time to a musician on site with actual issues with the support of an experienced AT teacher. Together we will work on the theme of applying the AT to musicians and performing artists which I have been focusing on for the past 4 years. To that end each teacher will work individually with a GuitarFest participant on their specific concerns both on their own, attending their guitar lessons and in the group AT classes with me. AT trainees, students and novices are welcome as well. They will learn from observing this process as well as get group and private lessons at their level of experience. It is an all inclusive workshop that will take full advantage of the presence of the musicians by integrating the two courses.

Participation and costs.

Tuition for AT participants in the immersion course is 350 euros. This covers all AT group classes, private lessons with Corinne and coachings between AT and Guitarfest participants, masterclass observation, all concerts and other festival activities (extra fee for Pompeii excursion), and the space and opportunity to exchange work or learn from many teachers.

Registrants should anticipate a total enrollment cost of 670 Euros: 350 euros for tuition plus 330 Euros for six nights at the hotel. (Anyone interested in more or fewer nights at the hotel, or single occupancy, should contact us through sorrentoguitarfest@gmail.com)

Based on costs in 2015: Registration and non-refundable deposit of 150 Euros. The lodging cost is 330 euros. The balance of tuition may be paid via PayPal or check, or in cash in Euros or equivalent in Dollars upon arrival at the festival.

Atelier* de Technique F.M. Alexander

Sundtommy_corinneay October 9th: 1-day workshop with Tommy Thompson from Boston, MA. “In the company of Support”: Enhancing relationships through the Alexander Teaching.

We are born into relationship. Indeed, from our first to our last breath, we are never out of relationship, to other people, to our planet, to the world, our ideas, thoughts, perceptions and  yes, even our physical and emotional pain. Within this simple truth lie all our experiences in being alive. Our very identity is formed within the context of our response to what we find ourselves in relation to.

Given the quality of our response to all we are in relation to, either our relationships are difficult or easy, meaningful or unfulfilling. But, ultimately, any relationship to anything or to anyone is simply one’s experience, predicated on ones perception of life and life’s invariable vicissitudes. When ones experience is no longer governed by unconscious and habitual patterns of  behavior a new world of potential and possibility opens.

What makes the difference?  And, how can we make a difference?

These are questions to ask our self.  Are my relationships meaningful and fulfilling, or are they habitually difficult and unsuccessful?  Has my way of being and processing experience enhanced the quality of my relationships to the people I encounter briefly on a daily basis, or to my more enduring relationships with my family, my friends and my loved ones; and do I feel at ease in relationship to the planet and all that it offers?

This workshop will focus on using the principles and concepts, which form the basis for the Alexander teaching, to foster and enhance meaningful relationships — with everything and everyone. The participants will work individually, in pairs and in groups to explore this theme.

Prior to the workshop each participant is encouraged to think about personal and professional relationships in their life; those that have proved to be unsatisfying or complicated, and those, which have always been easy and engaging. Reflection prior to participation in the workshop will increase the possibilities of each participant’s individual contribution to the workshop.

Spring Equinox Retreat & New Moon Transformation

Explore the principals of the Alexander Technique, Shamanic Teachings, and experience a New Moon Purification Lodge
March 20-22, 2015 @ Spirit Canoe Lodge in Ashe County, NC

Our personal stories and mythologies can create identity and become how we define ourselves, often perpetuating unwanted patterns. This is not who we really are. Who we really are is who we are becoming in the present, moment to moment informed by the learning’s of our past while we ‘with hold definition’ of who we think we should be….to please others, to be successful, to be loved etc… Defining ourselves by our past experiences or stories limits our potential. During this Retreat you will experience:

  • The exploration of patterns created from your past, to honor what they have taught you, let go of unproductive patterns, and discover the productive patterns now needed to gain greater access to your potential.
  • The principals of the Alexander Technique through story work, centering exercises and direct group experience and sharing.
  • The Shamanic Teachings of your sitting place within the Moon Cycles. How your current age highlights the essential patterns that most need to change.
  • A New Moon Purification Lodge to integrate your experience and connect with your desire to grow and evolve.
  • Leaving transformed, with practical tools for meeting yourself in the events of Life from a more present embodied self, free from patterns that do not serve your higher self.

Corinne Cassini and Kelly Clampitt will co-facilitate this weekend retreat-providing you with a deeper connection to the elemental and embodied teachings they have both integrated into their own lives, originating from the F.M. Alexander Technique and Shamanic Sweet Medicine SunDance Path of Turtle Island. Celebrate the Spring Equinox by planting seeds of Self Devotion and change! Contact Kelly or Corinne for more detailed information and to RSVP.

corinneMy name is Corinne Cassini, I am an Alexander Technique teacher and cellist. In 2012 I left my New York City teaching practice to take the position of adjunct professor of the Alexander Technique (AT) at Appalachian State University, Hayes School of Music here in Boone wondering if it was the place for me…Little did I know I would love it here! As an AT teacher, I am certified by both AmSAT (American Society for the Alexander Technique) and ATI (Alexander Technique International). An Ohio native, I lived in France while growing up, and later in Germany and The Netherlands. I completed a three-year AT training in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, while working as a free-lance Baroque cellist, teaching the cello, and also teaching French as a foreign language. Later I completed two years of post graduate work under Tommy Thompson at the Alexander Technique Center at Cambridge, MA. totaling over 2.500 hours of instruction in the AT over a 6 year period. I like to help people see who they really are and empower them through recognition of their own choices using the tools of the Alexander Technique to bring about deep and lasting transformation and growth.

For more information on myself and the Alexander Technique please visit www.lightinbeing.com or call 646-541-4833 or email: corinnecassini@gmail.com. Private sessions available during the retreat at the discounted rate of $50/hour

What people are saying:

Corinne is simply amazing. I’ve worked with other Alexander Technique teachers and gotten great benefit, but Corinne works on an entirely different level from anyone else I’ve experienced. Every time we work together, I find myself in awe of her natural sense of energy and the body, and the way that she is so clearly able to communicate this, both verbally and physically. Corinne has helped me to tap into a relationship with my body that I didn’t know was possible and the impact of our work together has had an awesome ripple effect in other areas of my life. Not only is she incredibly skilled and wise, she also has a loving, comforting presence that makes it easy to relax, be fully present in my body, and deeply receive the benefits of the work. I am grateful for Corinne and her gifts, and could not recommend her more highly.

Greetings! My name is Kelly “Jumping Mouse”, I am originally from Oklahoma of Chickasaw and Metis (mixed blood) heritage, transplanted to California, landing permanently in North Carolina to fulfill my dream of living in the mountains and woods where spring water gurgles from Grandmother Earth into streams, creeks, and rivers. To my surprise the New River in Ashe County may only be surpassed in age by the Nile in Africa. Water is healing, and rivers that flow North are rare. Yes, these local mountains are ancient, and many who travel here can feel this deep in their bones. In 2010 I created Spirit Canoe Lodge as a sacred space where community could gather together in their desire to “grow corn” on a personal and collective level. It is my passion to inspire others to dig into their shadow, unearth the treasure within, and make their dreams a reality. I have studied and apprenticed within the Sweet Medicine SunDance Path of Turtle Island for the last 20 years. I am honored to teach and lead ceremonies designed to support others in their desire to grow, evolve, and stand in the center of their own circle of life! I have also worked as a photographer for the last 25 years. You may have seen some of my work in Ashe or Watauga counties. There is much beauty here to capture! To RSVP or request more information, contact Kelly @ SpiritCanoeLodge@gmail.com or call 336-385-6312

Shamanic Purification Lodges: My favorite ceremony to give the community! This is a sacred ceremony that is open to all men and women (unless gender specified) that desire to connect with the elements, the worlds of Grandmother Earth, to pray (for self, life and others), to purify (emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually), and who choose to grow and evolve as humans. The alchemy of this ceremony creates a safe space for us to let go of what no longer serves us and connect with Spirit to receive guidance and healing. Come join us in a circle of reflections that we can make a jump in our evolution on a personal and collective level.
